According to the Shenzhen Rail Transit Office, the major structure of Futian train station has been completed. However, Futian train station will not start operation until 2014 due to the slow construction of the tunnels.

Futian train station is a traffic complex incorporating high speed railway, inter-city railway, urban rail transit, bus stations and other transport infrastructures. Futian train station occupies a total construction area of 140,000 square meters with a length of 1120 meters and width of 80 meters.

Futian train station will be the first underground train station in China after the construction project is completed. Its function is to ease the dense business passenger flows in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

The major structure of Futian train station was completed in February. Most of the citizens are keen for the train station to start operation. It was revealed by the Shenzhen Rail Transit Office that the construction projects of tunnels between Shenzhen North Station and Futian station will be completed by the end of 2013 and Futian Station will start operation in 2014.

Beijing-Shenzhen HSR will be extended to Hong Kong after the opening of Futian Station. And it will take only half an hour to travel from downtown Shenzhen to Hong Kong at that time.
